In 1989, Bert and John Jacobs designed their first tee shirt. They knew nothing about the business.
For five years, the brothers hawked tee shirts in the streets of Boston and travelled the East Coast, selling door-to-door in college dormitories.
They collected some good stories, but were not very prosperous. They lived on peanut butter and jam, slept in their van, and showered when they could.
Chicks were not impressed.
By the Autumn of 1994, heading home from a long, less-than-fruitful road trip, Bert and John were desperately searching for answers to keep the dream alive. Little did they know, the only answer they needed was back in Boston, hanging up on their apartment wall.
Jake's contagious grin, simple as it was, seemed to express everything the Jacobs brothers believed in.
One fateful September day, they printed up 48 Jake shirts for a local street fair in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They laid the shirts out on their rickety card table. By noontime, all 48 of those tees were gone. A star was born.
Soon Jake was introduced to local retailers, and his simple message of optimism was embraced like nothing the brothers had ever seen. As demand for product soared, Jake's team grew, and the Little Brand That Could began to spread across the world!
The Life is good Kids Foundation Mission
The Life is good Kids Foundation supports extraordinary charities that create a lasting positive impact on children facing unfair challenges, including the trauma of violence, poverty, and loss.
The Life is good Kids Foundation receives financial support from the public in several ways. Life is good donates 100% of its profits from the sale of fundraising tees and other products to the Kids Foundation. The public also provides funds via the charitable community fundraising festivals conducted by The Life is good Company in cities and states across the world. The Foundation distributes 100% of the funds received from these festivals to non-profit organizations supporting children in need.
The Foundation provides grants to preselected beneficiaries; it does not accept unsolicited requests for assistance.
In Australia, we work with the charity TLC for Kids. TLC For Kids provides urgent assistance and distraction boxes to kids that have been affected by sickness, tragedy or natural disaster. We provide positive products for the TLC Distraction Boxes, and raise funds through allof our events
Here at Life is good, we are blown away and humbled by the amazing letters that arrive each day from people who have had powerful experiences that they would like to share with us. Some are funny and light, others are deeply meaningful stories from people facing life's inevitable challenges. This steady supply of inspiration keeps our engines running, and that's why we call it FUEL. We're happy to share these with you and hope that you can send us a note with your own story of optimistic inspiration.

January 18th 2010 The situation in Haiti is truly heartbreaking. Safe, clean hydration containers are one of the many vital needs at this time. Therefore, yesterday we shipped a donation of 4,000 Life is good Nalgene water bottles that will be packaged with a major shipment coordinated by the Outdoor Industry Association on behalf of Americares. These bottles will go a long way to helping Haitians to drink safe and clean water from the purification operations set up by the Aid Agencies and United Nations. Please continue your own outpouring of support for this nation that so desperately needs it.
